If you really want to play around with ear training then I highly recommend Brent High's EarTest--Ear Training for Perfect Pitch and Relative Pitch as I mention in my short article about Perfect Pitch at; perfect pitch software ear training for absolute pitch

While these are great links and interesting sites, I wonder does anyone actually do the work that's required.

valid point, i will hold my hands up and say im one of those who should definitely do more but i do do a little every now and then and for some one such as myself who is learning the keys you are training your ears every time you practice the piano in a sub conscious fashion

What I don't like about a lot of these "programs" is that they test rather than train. You can do the tests and get them the intervals, for example, wrong. How does that help you? If you don't know what the intervals sound like in the first place, how are you going to improve your ear?

It says on the homepage of the link above that "Good Ear helps you to develop good ears" but I don't see how. If I was someone who couldn't identify intervals or chord types I think I would get frustrated doing these tests without having someway to learn why I was wrong. That's my opinion. Plus most of us I think have trained our ears without doing interval recognition exercises.

Intervals have a distinctive characteristic sound to each one, the more you do it the more you get to recognize the sound, its really just training through repetition and practice on your piano, lol speaking of that i should really dust off the ol' piano

Yes, but it's also about listening and understaning and not just repetition. I remember internalising intervals using a method where I would relate the sound to the opening notes of a well known melody e.g. a perfect 4th as the opening to Here Comes the Bride, a perfect 5th as the opening to the Black Beauty theme (yes, this was a while ago!!), a minor 6th as the third and fourth notes of The Entertainer by Scott Joplin, etc.

If it were only about repetition, you could teach a monkey to do it!!
