Default Sample Loops Question

ok i posted in this section as i felt it was the right place but please correct me if im wrong...

well my question is about pre made loops, iv just acquired some and have never really used them but thought i may start as all the pro's seem to be doing so, well these drum loops are coming in bars of either 5 or 6. im used to 4 bar loops when it comes to drums and have never seen loops in this length before, its causing mayhem when i try and convert them in apple loop utility. is this a common occurrence?

5 or 6 bars does seem strange. Could be wrong but I don't think that is a common occurence. Not based on my own experience.

What distributor is behind the library and what format is it in?

i think they are sonart audio, was just given them but they sounded cool so thought id mess about with them, so on closer inspection im seeing and hearing loops using all different length bars?

Really strange. I have not come across this kind of thing before. You might have to slice them up to 2 or 4 bars individually. If you have Live (I think you do) it might be worth playing them through (via rewire) and bouncing to Logic???

no they will be going straight into the trash tbh, i am really hoping to find a rational explanation to why this might be so that it all can become clear

You tried dropping them into Live?
That usually copes pretty well with most rubbish that thrown at it

Yes - alot of tracks seem to be thrown together from Vengence sample CDs - not suprising though as lot of good sounds on them.

Something else for you to try - just cut hits out of a loop that sound good and drop them into impulse (or simpler/sampler if you need more control), then you can re-program you own rhythms etc.

This is basically what I often do now as a starting point.

I think this is the great thing about Recycle or Kontakt etc. Take an existing loop and be creative with it. Cut it up. Rip out the sounds you want and then build your own loop. More sounds in the arsenal!

You can do exact the same loop chopping in live - just set warp markers, then there are various option to chop it up - including automatically creating a playable drum rack from the slices - think MPC style 'chop-shop' feature.

What recycle has that I like is some extra option for controlling the inter-slice envelopes a little to smooth the transition when (for eg) you chopping up a high tempo beat to a much lower tempo - chopping up drum and base loops for eg.

i should really learn live more but really happy with logic at the moment, yes recycles envelope on each segment is great and i also really like how it is quick and easy to find bpm with it
