Default Guitar solo wannabee

Looking to source some 'play guitar with..' books, specifically dealing with solo's on classic tracks? Can search on eBay and the like but kinda need some specific criteria (series name, publisher, author etc)

Also, could the DV Guitar staff recommend any type of digi-recorder that can maybe slow down a solo to work out specific notes..that'd be a great help!

Thanks

Hey
Tascam do a wicked little practising tool called the MP-GT1. It holds MP3 files, up to 240 of 'em, and can speed-up/slow-down/alter pitch of the tracks for you to play along with. Check it out here:

If you're not prepared to spend that much, you can download a neat little open source program called Audacity. It's not exactly feature-packed, but it can let you import an mp3, and then slow it right down without altering the pitch of the track. You can also use it to loop a short segment that you're trying to work out.

Amazon have the ones I'm familiar with. Have had a few of these for Christmas over the years:

Amazon search for "Play Guitar With...

Surprising sometimes what you can learn with regard to technique when reading transcriptions.

Just for slowing down an mp3 - Windows Media Player V10 will do this (possibly earlier versions but I'm not sure).

Quality is ok but not perfect for transcribing.

For transcription there's a shareware piece called Transcribe! made by Seventh String Software - the home of Transcribe! which is v. good.

I had a little play around with the Guitar Guru demo but have not used it enough to tell you what it is really like. Seems like fun.

You could join Licklibrary as they have lots of tracks and videos showing how they are played. Costs £1.50 a week

There are a lot of website out there that have how to videos on them so just google for guitar and you should find them
