Lightbulb Attention Robot Guitar owners: your axe is obsolete!!

Well, not entirely, thankfully. Just wanted to get your attention.

But check this out:

http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Dark...echnology.aspx

I admit I don't fully understand yet what this is all about, aside from a crazy pickup configuration, faster automatic tuning and a better battery. Is there DSP involved? Maybe... edit: looks like no. And as for what they're claiming about the "revolutionary" piezo acoustic pups - in fact I believe Godin have been doing this for years. Parker as well, maybe!

Looks like there will be a retrofit option to Robot Guitar owners though: although I'm not 100% sure which of the benefits will transfer over being that the original Robots are pretty much just Les Paul Studio spec. And I can't help but wonder, if I were to upgrade my 1st Production Run limited LP Robot, would that devalue it to a potential collector?

Discuss.

I wasn't aware of this Gibson development, but this claim gave me a wry little smile:

In fact, many of the technological advances on the Dark Fire were virtually inconceivable just a few years ago.
Chameleon tone, alternate tunings, alternate pickup, hex pickup output, fully upgradable... did they NEVER hear of the Variax where many of those very technological advances were not only conceivable just a few years ago, they were actually already implemented and on sale! These sales people... they have such selective memory

Indeed, the Variax came to mind as well in addition to the Godin (they've had three-voice guitars for at least ten years)... but we should probably be careful what we say on a public forum about Gibson as we might get sued.

Heh heh.. well, I'm, not questioning what it does or how well it does it... it was just the convenient amnesia of the sales copy writer that got me

Just to let you know that we're getting 10 of these coming in in the new year, details as to exactly when are a bit sketchy but we'll let you know when we do.
