I must admit that the idea of a "Fab 4" virtual instrument collection did not fill with immediate excitement. However, I am listening to some demos online and the guitars sound great. The collection is not endorsed by the Beatles but who cares?

Cool Hmmm...

Alrighty, I'm in.

1) M-Tron Pro - looks super-cool. My experience with GForce so far has been pretty positive - VSM is excellent, and Oddity is fun too if you're into the ARP Odyssey sound, so there's no doubt M-Tron Pro will take a good thing and make it better. I have no first-hand experience with M-Tron yet other than hearing all the demos - the software has been on my list for a while, but it's not really "demo-able." So I'd be excited if Santa handed me a copy indeed. 'Trons are as fun as spiked eggnog and mistletoe, IMO, so how can you go wrong?

2) Fab Four - now this one I actually already have. The drums in this library are superb and easily my favourite part of the library. Very Beatles-flavour (duh) - but if you're not into that 60's Abbey Road drum sound then look elsewhere. I like the bass guitars as well, and some of the keyboards are fun (although I wish there were more of them!). Unsurprisingly, there's a big emphasis on guitars - I have to say, they're probably better than your average MIDI-keyboard-triggered guitar sample, but they still do tend to sound like MIDI-keyboard-triggered guitar samples. The acoustics to me sound better than the electrics as well. Now, maybe if I actually had a MIDI guitar I could coax a more realistic sounding performance out of it, but then there would still be the articulations to deal with - I think that's something I personally need to explore further anyway.

Fab Four also contains exactly ONE Mellotron sample - the flutes!

Here's something I did which uses Fab Four quite a bit - the bass, the beginning and end sitars and the piano stab at the end (the "final chord" I guess ) are all from Fab Four.

And here's your final fun fact for the post - the EWQL support forum is the only internet forum I've ever been banned from! Me, can you believe it?

As I learned my guitar playing to copying Beatles tracks by ear throughout my teens then this is a great product. I only have copies of the original vinyls on my PC, crackles and all. Marvellous.

Actually, the samples sound rather good and it would be useful to help play Beatles Le, otherwise known as Oasis.

"Excessive negativity" was their official reason.

Was simply pointing out a few shortcomings in their products & marketing. They didn't like that one bit.

They might have banned quite a few other people on that basis. I'm trying to remember a saying...if one person likes a product he will tell a few people but if the same person does not like a product he will tell 10 people.

Anyway – on with the competition…

I can’t say anything about M-Tron Pro but I have Fab Four and if you want to make that kind of music, then this package contains the lot. I would add that this is the “lightest” of the libraries in terms of processor usage. I know of someone running 40 instances on a Mac Pro (quad) with 8 Gb Memory.

I checked those youtube videos and there really are some good guitars and drums. Play engine seems nice too. Beatles Le a good one
