Howdo DV forums
I'm currently looking at investing in an electronic drum kit after deciding against my initial idea of purchasing some ddrum triggers and i came across the Alesis DM5 Pro Kit which looks sturdy and is also affordable. The main purpose's of purchasing one is for 1. Practice and 2. using it in conjunction with toontrack ezdrummer and bfd to record ideas and demos on the spot at home without having to purchase mics as well as annoy the neighbours with the acoustic kit. I have a few concerns though regarding problems like double and miss-triggereing and also the use of a double bass drum pedal ( am i just asking way to much from the kit by using one ) , iv'e read a mixed bunch of reviews and am still in limbo so to speak. Am i in luck with this kit or is it really a case of you get what you pay for ? HELP! lol ![]() |

Yes, to an extent, you get what you pay for. The DM5 Pro kit is essentially an Alesis DM5 bundled with a Millenium MPS300 pad kit. I bought the exact same pad kit and used it with a Roland TD6.
If you are only using it for practice and scratch recording of ideas, then yes, it should be adequate, but there are a few points to note:
I can confirm that you will be able to use a double bass drum pedal with this kit... I use a Millenium double pedal with mine (a shockingly close copy of a DW double kick pedal!). ______________________________

I bought the DM5 pro a while back and I've never been more dissappointed. The thing is of such bad build quiality that already after 3 months it's more of a chore to play. The selection wheel with which you scroll through the drum kits now doesn't go through the kits in sequence (1,2,3,4,...) instead, as you turn it, it flicks to whatever random kit it wants....therefore you have to have your wits about you and let go of the wheel when yours appears.
One of the cymbal pads is already making this horrible rattling noise as if something is broken inside. I'm not a heavy handed drummer atall, and I would have expected the kit to be designed to withstand being played. Also one of the drum pads has already gone. It's pot luck wether you get a response from the thing, it seems to have just given up. The hi hat doesn't respond to anything above about 60bpm if you have your foot off the pedal. I won't go on and on about it, because there's a huge list of things wrong with the piece of crap. I wouldn't waste your money - within months it will need replacing and you will be tearing your hair out. |
