Default Bernard Purdie: drumming genius?

Bernard Purdie – drumming genius?

Apparently, Bernard is 'the world's most recorded drummer'.

He is indeed! I met him a few months back after a show at the jazz cafe... seriously think of ANY HUGE artist of the 60's / 70s and he probably played on their record. Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone, SHAFT, Dizzy Gillespie, Quincy Jones... so so many.

When he shook my hand he nearly broke it into pieces.

He's also responsible for the Purdie Shuffle... its like a 12/8 rhythm for slow bpms. Check out the song Home at Last by Steely Dan for the full action!

probably best groove is Jeff Porcaro playing Rosana, He fused a Bernard Purdie groove and a John Bonham groove to get the groove we all love in Rosanna

Mans a genius

He also claims to have drummed on some of The Beatles biggest hits! No doubt he's one of the funkiest drummers ever though, probably one of the most sampled too!

I love the way this guy plays. Bernard purdie is one of my favourite drummers of all time

BUT he might not be the most recorded drummer of all time because there is also John JR Robinson (the guy that plays drums on Michael Jackson's Don't Stop till you get enough) who's recorded so many tracks and he's still going.

he once took his wife out to dinner and on the way they heard 3 songs on the radio - different artists and different styles.

he played on all 3 tracks.
