EZ drummer uses a serial IIRC. Double check it though.

EZ Drummer has a serial number and activation key based authorisation.

cheers guys, ive heard mixed reviews about how this works, you only get a few goes than you have to pay them 20$,

out of all the packages out there which offers the best value and ease of use, i dont want to spend my limited time in mundane manual reading and endless setting and tweaking etc. sound wise im not mad pushed (youd understand when you hear me playing guitar)

thanks again.
alan.

Not true. You can have 2 simultaneous activations (which can be activated) up to a maximum of four activations. Once you reach the max you just need to contact support to get it reset. I've had mine reset a couple of times after having issues with the activations not sticking (my generated computer ID would be different each time I used EZDrummer and hence needed to re-authorise). They were very good about it and simply reset my activations when needed. That issue has since been fixed.

Best value and ease of use has to be EZDrummer IMHO.

In my case it was because I was using an mLan based system. I believe Toontrack were using elements of the computers hardware makeup to generate the System ID that forms part of the activation process. Since my mLan system had completely reconfigurable and software patchable routing of inputs and outputs, it must have looked like an entirely different soundcard each time I repatched my mixer and so invalidated the activation as the System ID had changed.

this seems complicated to me, mine is a regular dell system and my iloc is fine on it for protools mpowered, are we really stealing that much software
ill download the demo and see how it goes!

It's not really all that complicated, in fact it's a fairly standard challenge/response system that many software vendors use. I must admit I do preferr authorisation via iLok/Synchrosoft, but haven't yet come across a "Serial & System ID" based authorisation system that is problematic on standard PC audio systems.

dave, can i use it without a midi controller keyboard? as i dont have one as such, well i do have a yamaha ez-30 but cant get it to work properly with protools, its a routing thing, i can record a midi track, can see the notes on the track but i cant hear it in playback?anyway ive heard the demos , there doesnt seem to be one to download from their site, digi are doing a great deal on this product at the moment and ive bought from them in the past with no real problems.,
i know it works from within the sequencer as a plug in etc. how will it run with just copy and pasting loops into an instrument track?

thanks
alan.

You don't *have* to use a MIDI controller of any kind. It will work quite happily by pasting MIDI loops into an instrument track... in fact, the normal way to use it *is* to browse it's built in MIDI pattern library via the groove library GUI and then drag and drop your selected patterns onto an instrument track to build up your drum part.

Just to add - if your software programme has a step sequencer type thing in it then it's bloomin' marvellous. JohnBonhamtastic
