The DV247 boys went down to the X1 launch yesterday and copped a feel o' the lil' beauty
PS: for the avoidance of doubt, the unit was filmed with operator using headphones so the music track is overdubbed to replace room ambient noise ______________________________

Think this may have to be an investment...but I also need an interface...any chance of an Audio2/X1 bundle? Hehe.

Modz - From your play with it - is it practical to use without an external mixer (or another controller to look after the crossfader if using the internal mixer)? - I didnt see any mean of cross fading on it.
TBH - Im not actually bothered as would be using with an external mixer anyway, but am curious ![]() |

Hey - quick reply - you have 2 modes with the X1 - the standard mode and also Generic MIDI mode - in Generic MIDI mode you can assign any of the controllers to act on the crossfader (or any other function)
The intention is to use in conjuction with a standard type Digital DJ setup (ie with an external mixer to handle the audio crossfade and level faders) but it's pretty easy to flip the controller between the different modes, so you could use it this way if you like. Steve Parker 2twenty2 |

right im really confused, can i use this and my laptop and audio 8 alone, not have to worry about a crossfader elsewhere and have these 3 items as a complete set up?

This may me a silly question (it came to me in a dream after all) as I know there is the 'sync' button and quantized looping and all that, but I'm kinda green when it comes to software dj'ing, but what about pitch control of the deck? I know there is a nudge button if it starts to drift out of time, but what if I take it to a club or a mates and incorperate it into a CDJ set up and need to set the pitch of the track traditionally. I can't see a way of doing this. Would that require switching it to generic midi mode and assigning a knob to the pitch slider or am I missing it on the videos?

There is a tempo control which for track in master tempo sync mode is basically the same thing. Of course I dont know how fine that control is.
The pitch bend or nudge will help a little, but within tracktor when its in master sync mode, the bend is more for making very fine adjustments to offset its beat detction slighly. Good question though - I was kind of wondering how one would go about picking up from a conventional CDJ/Vinyl set (or even another digital DJ set on other gear). I think the real answer is in using an audio 4 or audio 8 audio interface and sticking a timecode CD in to get the exact match that way. I think this controller is (quite sensibly) very firmly aimed at users with an existing CDJ + Audio 4/8 + Mixer setup. There are plenty of far better controllers around for standalone use. However I likle that this is small, and focusses on the essential functions that are in addition to mixer and pitch control. Im thinking of getting one of these actually, along with possibly an audio 4 interface - just because finally that audio interface and one of these controllers (and cross grading to scratch from pro) between them offer at last a solution thats fits in with a CDJ/Vinyl setup. Otherwise - quite honestly, im better off sticking with my vestax VCI-100 controller for running tracktor on its own via a basic audio interface (audio 2/audio 1 etc) straight into a PA/house desk. |
