Traktor AAC problem workaround
Mornin' all
Here's a strange one. Not my normal fare but last Sunday I did a private party which demanded the necessity for lots of current pop/dance/R&B tunes to be played.. So, in preparation, I d/loaded loads of Non DRM current songs from iTunes. And what a surprise when loading them into Traktor Pro (On a new intel Macbook) - the program would not analyze the files and I got that flashing red progress bar at the bottom saying.. "missing or corrupt file, un-supported or DRM protected"
I know of course Google is my friend and did the obligatory searches. Although nothing seemed to give a clear solution, by gleaning certain key comments I seem to have now got this sussed.
Previously, I had purchased the new files on iTunes on my G5 desktop, then stuck them on a usb stick and dropped them onto the main 'music' folder on the Macbook. That was the first mistake. They're iTunes files and subsequently they should have been dropped into the folder that iTunes itself reads as its root source - in my case on the Macbook, 'iTunes Music' (if yours is different, whichever your particular folder is of course).
And this is where the method for Traktor to read these files correctly gets a little different. Within T/Pro, navigate to the iTunes playlist, then highlight all the files that you wish to add, right (or control)-click and select 'add to collection'. After this, go to Traktors 'collection' folder, select all the previously added files, right-click again, and choose 'analyze'. Hey presto, the files are BPM'd, striped and have their artwork showing - luvvly jubbly
