Default This just about sums up the problem with modern UK clubs !

Job - Student Internship : UK Music Jobs

Basically, they are trying to get popular students to do their dirty work for them.

Its just a scam to get more student to goto clubs.

"Research" means we cant even be bothered to help you do it.
"Execute" means just do it.

Or am I just getting cynical?

I'm pretty sure it's illegal to "hire" "interns" and give them a specific job description.

Actually, there are so many restrictions on bringing on interns in general in this country, there's no doubt they're probably breaking more than the one rule...

It is such a big con.

The term 'intern' and 'apprentice' has become a lot more popular because of that TV program. They're being used a lot by dodgy marketing and promotions companies to make their jobs of walking upto randoms more appealing...same thing here, in a slightly altered context.

Thing is, this type of thing is normally dished out via contacts and organised via local student unions. I've done it myself. Calling it a job, or an intership, or anything other then a mutual favour...is jusst wrong !

yes but easily dealt with by the National minimum wage. Once a couple of people make a claim they'll give up on this. The downside of this is legitimate busienss won't offer internships any more because they can be hit by NMW claims.

It wouldn't surprise me Trev if they got round it by offering/forcing it as some sort of 'volunteer' thing. C'mon, like they are gonna pay these kids...the post says they get 100% commission on their sales..

A lot of interns seem to be 'expenses only'. And oddly, at the moment most of the jobs/interns on that site are for roles in companies related to music (ie pr, office, admin, accounts)... not a lot for prospective wannabe technies, engineers, desingers, producers etc... looking at places like that can be a bit disheartening !

You'd think nobody really makes any music these days !

They can label it however they want. If at the point you leave you bring a claim for national min wage and unlawful deduction of wages they then have the choice of paying 10k to defend it or giving you a cheque for 5k. What would you do if you were them?

So say Ed was to do it, at the end of it all he could claim NMW and recieve a settlement?

This has come back around actually. Trev, if you could care to enlighten me..

The pub I work at has a thief, and rather then do their jobs and catch the f**ker doing it, they are instead demanding everyone pay towards the amount missing. It's only 7.50 each, but to me that is beside the point. It's not me walking off with an extra 90 in my pocket, so why should it be upto me to pay for it. My manager says why should she, and I told her its her pub, therefore her duty to run it properly. That includes dealing with problems.

I've refused, and they are now saying that they will just deduct it from my wages. I've told them that its illegal and they can't, but I suspect they will do it anyway.

If they do deduct it from me, can I still take them to court for 5k.

If I liked Pork Scratching, then maybe it'd be win win.

I'd still rather nail them for 5k though. That would bother them more !
