lol not really because i dont even want to put the effort in for new rap but i suppose i should
![]() i just feel its plastic, its a business now, a fashion! its like every one is a rapper and every ones a gangster, tbh i feel the majority are simply plastic gangsters. it's hard to explain sphelan. listen to the vids and then listen to the new stuff. im sure there is some new stuff out there but after the market became so saturated with rubbish i stopped looking! this r&b cross hip hop hybrid too is utter poop too. i wish i could explain myself better but i just know i feel very strongly about it ______________________________

This is what hiphop sounds today ![]() about sureno disagreeing on me , if i'm not mistaken hiphop gained that eletronic designation and also the name "hiphop" because of afrika bambataa I'm a rapper and i'm not a gangster but you do have a strong point there. ______________________________

Yes, indeed. You've both put me on the trail. Cheers guys. When I have digested the stuff you've sent my way...I'll hopefully be able to comment more with you guys!

Right! I've been working my way through your suggestions guys and the sound of hip hop is familiar to me...it must be osmosis! I suppose it due to its prevalence today.
Now I can appreciate more why it may not be appropriate to refer to it as "dance" music. It's more a plateform for comment from the rappers, no? It's not the music I would have usually listened to but now it sounds a bit more familiar. I realise that it's not a music I would probably produce here in my home studio - hell, I can't imagine myself rapping, nor would I insult the artists who do it by trying. Were I to hook up with a rapper that would be different. Also, I have realised from the exercise that hip hop would not be the most appropriate style to choose for a remix. Thanks again and if there are any more suggestion...let 'em roll! ![]() |

Yeah, but is the new stuff a style to consider for an Irish white boy living in Spain?
And to remix something using a hip hop style? Is that realistic?Or should I wait for your episode on the modern stuff? ![]() |

Pete Rock made some awesome remixes back in the days, most of them were actually better than the original songs. You can always remix old songs and turn them into fresh ones which would contribute to the "dying" of this new hiphop if you are good enough ![]() ______________________________

Am I wrong in saying that hip hop isn't that complicated musically and production wise?
Here I am generalising based on what I have been listening to over the past couple of days, but are these the ingredients, more or less? Vocal rap - which I think is generally not processed that much if at all. Very little or static harmonic elements - few chords. Kick drum generally only on first beat (?) Short melodic riff on a synth. Bass riffs. And on the production, what can we say? I don't hear filter sweeps nor sidechaining! I don't want to make it sound simplistice, but working things out like this help me get my head around it. Am I missing something? |
