Ok well if youve got it assigned as audio ins/outs but the faders arent working you need to assign it in the control surface page of Cevice setup. I think its a case of it'll use either the Mackie control or some other protocol that should be listed in the manual. Simply add that protocol to the list of used control surfaces and then it should start picking up the mixer.

I`m using Mac OSX 10.4 ... sound input is assigned to USB codec in the Mac control and in cubase I went to device set up and chose Mackie control...still no joy though...?

Ok by the looks this doesnt actually give you fader controls within cubase you can just assign channels as VSTis and then i guess i may record automation that way, so you need to just enable all the tracks as VSTis. seems quite strange

I managed to select the Codec in the VST system link and multitrack...I then recorded some audio but cant hear it in the playback unless I go back into VST multitrack and select built in audio as the driver!
Cant be right?

Partidario, did you resolve this? I use Cubase (on PC though) and was looking at the Multimix 8.. I'm no real problem solving use to you I'm afraid, I'm new to all this.

Default Alesis Mulitrax & Cubase

I want to know how to setup tracks on the Alesis to the Cubase software tracks. I can record, no problem but I want to assign like track 1 on the Alesis to track 1 in the Cubase software. Track 2 to track 2, etc. so that I can record multiple instruments at one time and playback and be able to adjust the levels with the Alesis.

How can I do this?

Check you have all of the Alesis's inputs setup on the "Inputs" tab on the VST connections dialog. Once that is done, you can then select whichever of these inputs you like on the audio input drop-down on each track in the arrange window and also at the top of each track channel in the Mixer window.

Default Alesis Mulitrax & Cubase

Thanks for the tips. Question is how do I do that? Sorry for being thickheaded but I am new to using this type of setup. I went through the Help docs but I am just not getting it. When I look at the VST inputs I have two. Shouldn't I have more than that? How do I setup more than two?

Click the "Add Bus" button, choose between mono, or stereo and specify how many... then against each one, select the actual input (from your Alesis mixer) that should feed it.

Default Alesis Multimix8

Partidario, if you have the blue 'Multimix8', it produces a two track stereo output only, you can't assign more than 2 tracks on the mixer to separate tracks in Cubase. You may be able to assign 2 mixer tracks, though, to 2 Cubase tracks. I haven't done this, but if you pan them hard right and hard left, and then assign the left and right channels of the mixer's stereo output appropriately, you'll get two separate tracks. You can always pan hard left and right within Cubase, too, as long as you've done it at the mixer.
If you have the black 'Multimix8 USB 2', it does have true multitracking.
It doesn't look as good, though.
Hope this helps.
