I'm more concerned about the n12 just now to be honest. Everything says that it's installed on the PC but i just can't initialize it in cubase no matter what i try. Even it's recording templates are there but when i try and select it's driver, it just fails. Can't get to grips with it atall.

have you enabled it in cubase?if your using it you have to make sure its been added and you manually select it in your devices menu...dont forget too add it with the (+) option at the top left of the menu box once you click it scroll down until you see your control surface then click add .if your still having probs install the cubase ai software that came with the mixer because im wondering if studio 5 will accept the n12 i thought only full versions or ai software accepted the n series not basic versions such as studio cubase..the studio cubases miss out on loads of things thats why i bought the upgrade too full version.

I suppose i have nothing to lose in trying the AI software that came with it to see if that will work. If studio 5 doesn't accept it then i want my money back for that software because i bought that seperate and was assured that everything would be fine. I'll taklk to the guys at DV first though before i make any demands

It's pretty frustrating having saved for weeks to get this gear and i can't get them linked up!

p.s. I did enable the n12 im cubase and i got a message saying that it wouldn't start. The option to add it in devices are there and the recording templates are there. I keep getting an error message every time i install the n12 that the mLAN driver has not been installed properly. The instructions that came with the mixer aren't the clearest and don't include install instructions for windows 7. It doesn't help that i don't really know my way around windows 7 either.

Did you install *all* the software for the n12? It looks like you need to install the driver and the nExtention addon (both of which appear to be in the same download). Not sure if you need to apply firmnware updates either.

Did you get the latest downloads from here?

http://www.yamahasynth.com/downloads...ios/n12n8/all/

Make sure you get the correct one of the 1st 2 listed. One is for 32-bit Windows 7, the other is for 64-bit. You can check on your PC's desktop by pressing the Windows key and the "E" key at the same time. This opens a file explorer winodw. Click "System properties" in the top meny bar. In the "System" paragraph it will state if your OS is 32-bit or 64-bit.

I'm sure i downloaded those Dave. I know mines is 32 bit windows. I tried phoning DV today but i need to talk to the synergy guys and they aren't in 'til Monday so i'm stuck

I've tried installing, removing, and reinstalling so many times. Nothing seems to work. I get the FW icon and when i hover over it it says Yamaha N12 and the templates are in cubase but when i select the Yamaha ASIO FW driver in there, it says that the device cannot be started. Also, after installation it tells me to re-start my computer, i do that but as soon as it starts up again it gives me a message saying that the mlan driver was not installed peoperly and to use the hardware wizard (which should pop up automatically but doesn't) to install it. I went into the hardware wizard manually but that didn't find anything. I'm at a complete loss.

like i said before mate the problem youve got is the same as many other n mixer users it doesnt work properly with cubase..

have you set the n12 as your primary audio card in your pc?its worth a try it could be something as simple as that.

or it could be a incompatabilty issue with your firewire card i had this with my liquid 16 it kept losing connection then i read it was a fault with the firewire card and the liquid mix software so i bought one with texas instrument chip set and found a older firmware and ever since its been brilliant.

Well the thing is, DV assured me that all of this would work together. I have that texas instrument thing you mention there, i saw it in my devices. I phoned earlier and they still assured me that it will be fine, i just have to speak to one of the synergy guys. I've given up for now anyway, i have a day off on Monday (supposed to be for recording ) so i'll have them phone me then and hopefully they can talk me through the steps and get these 2 linked up. Apart from this problem i'm really happy with them, the N12 sounds a looks great and the synergy is pretty impressive it just getting them both linked which is the problem, and a big one at that lol The fact that the synergy doesn't recognise that i have plugged the n12 into it (which would prompt the add devices wizard if it did) and that's supposed to happen but doesn't, makes me think it could be something as simple as the FW cable they have supplied me with, but i don't want to go buying another cable until i have spoken to them first.

To hell with it, i'm going to install the cubase AI that came with it and see if it works with that. I don't think it will affect the cubase studio 5 in any way, will it?

have you checked your firewire connection in your pc is turned on?and are you using the cable supplied by yamaha that are useally in the box?
if all else fails try changing the firewire port if you can most cards come with a few different connections..on mine i have 4 but the liquid mix will only work on one of them for some weird reason it wont show up on the others ..

try that then dont worry about it not showing a new hardware pop up just click on control panel then add hardware and it should ask you to install it again its worth a try mate ..

and dont worry about how many versions you have of cubase theyll all work ok..when you buy cubase it allows you too use any previous version of cubase for free and no need for a liscence..i have cubase 5/cubase4/studio 5/studio 4/cubase sx3 all running fine and i only bought cubase 5

all you need to do is goto the legacy page and download older versions or borrow a previous version from a mate install it then give it back
