Default Cubase 5 MIDI and Tascam US-144MkII

I have a US-144MkII attached to my computer by USB. Cubase 5 can't seem to see the MIDI input, so I cannot record MIDI. Can anyone list the steps I need to take to get the MIDI input working. Audio is working fine, but when I go to Device Setup in Cubase, there is no MIDI in listed. The MIDI Port Setup only has an Out to Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth.

Thanks

Nigel

Does it appear within the operating system? To find it, look in Start > Control Panel > Sound > Playback tab, you might need to right-click in the playback tab and tick "Show Disabled Devices " and "Show Disconnected Devices".

Both Show Disabled and Show Disconnected are ticked.

I have three entries for realtek HD Audio, for Speakers, Digital Output(RCA+Optical) and Realtek Digital Output. All are disabled. I have another entry for speakers on the Tascam US-144 MKII which is enabled and the default device. There is nothing showing for MIDI.

OK, to be absolutely sure, you'll need to download a bit of software (quite safe).

Download this Zip file: http://putzlowitsch.de/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/plw-vista-midi-mapper_0_93.zip

If you are on Windows 7 32bit, copy the PLWMidiMap.cpl file inside the ZIP file to C:\Windows\System32, if you are on Win7 64 bit, copy it to C:\Windows\SysWOW64. Now open your Control Panel and you'll find a new entry called "Putzlowitschs-Vista-MIDIMapper". Double click it and see if your Tascam port is listed in the drop-down menu???

(if you want to unsinstall the new Control Panel item , you only need to delete the file you copied)

Then you need to reinstall the drivers... the MIDI portion driver hasn't been installed properly.

Dave, you're a star.

Thanks very much for your help. It has been driving me nuts since yesterday. Getting a new machine is painful, but it's always the music software that's the most painful.

In case anyone else has the same problems, here are the steps.

1. Download the latest driver (I needed the Windows 7 64 bit one from Tascam's website)
2. run the driver setup and remove all drivers.
3. unplug the device, and reboot.
4. Re-run the setup and wait for the message telling you to connect the tascam before plugging in the USB cable.

Angry no joy

I've had no luck with my new laptop. Its running window 7 64bit, the upto date drive for the tascam us 144 and an up to date version of cubase 5. Both stienburg and tascam have been unable to resolve my problems for the past month.

I think there is a problem with the metronome. When using the tascam as the main device, it plays out of sync with the counter. And when I record midi, it is out of sync with both the counter and metronome click. The same can be said for audio.

Then there are the HAlion sounds.....they play back at a random tempo, slowing and speeding up.

So all I have been able to do for months is mix recording and not be able to add to them. I did try using the ASIO4ALL and that resolved the HAlion sounds problem, but thats all.

I need major help as I am this close to finishing my first album.

I probably wouldn't advise using Asio4All as it may conflict with the official drivers. Check your latency settings on the US144 control panel, also any pre delay settings in Cubase. contact me if you are still having issues.

Default cubase 5 and tascam 144 mk

similar problem here with windows 7- audio records but on playback the counter is out of sync. It works on playback with asio direct duplex drivers so it must be the tascam drivers and I have the most current version....the 144 has almost zero latency when recording though with tascam driver.... also should note, I have no sync problems using Reaper and the us 144mk with tascam drivers...
has anyone else figured this out yet?
