Well, that's the best way I can describe it in one line. I used to mix thru my desk, insert my TLA 5021 with just a little compression onto a CDR and the result was great, for a home studio anyway.
Now I have my lovely new UAD card, I've dispensed with my outboard DSPs and my CDR machine. The song sounds great when I play it thru Cubase, but after exporting audio mixdown, even keeping it in 24 bit, it sounds really flat. It's lost highs & lows and it's lost all of it's 'air'. Not muffled as such, but those lovely rooms on the BFD drums for example, now sound like an underground car park. I'm not using any processing on the master channel, I was going to do that afterwards, this is just the raw mix. I saw on a few other boards some others experienced this, but I never really found a definitive answer. I'm going to try tomorrow playing the track thru the desk, and recording it into soundforge to see if that makes a difference. Anyone else get this? |

itb v otb...? It's entirely possible to get good results but you just gotta work harder if you are itb.

I have to admit, I'm a recent itb convert. A little late, but the UAD and being able to save the mix finally brought me into 2009. I guess its more reading & learning..
![]() Hmm, haven't checked. Will have a look, thanks! |

Everything was flat, no normalize or anything. I played the track thru and recorded channels 1&2 into soundforge. Viola.. dynamics & definition. Quite by accident, I've now found a method that I like best, I can even insert my TLA like I used to and mix down to 24 bit instead of onto a CDR.
