Default Cubase SX / EWQLSO volume bursts

I've never posted here before but I hope someone can help me.

I've recorded, and quatized (over quatize, quatize lengths and fixed velocity) an EWQLSO Gold Edition double basses line in Cubase SX 3. That was fine.

I copied that line and transposed it up an octave for a cellos line. That was fine too.

When I copied that line and transposed it up an octave for a violas line, the violas volume bursted through at points.

I hope I've given enough information for someone to point me in the direction of solving this problem. I'm guessing it's common, and not unique to Cubase and particular soft synths as I've struggled with it for years.

I hope someone can help me

W

Edit I guess you might call these volume surges?

it could be your running out of computer power on my old computer it glitched like mad because the vsts i was using were very cpu hungry.try using another vst too see if the problem persits another way of fixing volume spikes is to put a compressor on that channel and if your still worried put a limiter on it so it doesnt spike.

It's most likely that the viola's articulation has a different velocity curve to that of the double bass and cello articulations... this is probably due to the point at which the samples switch as the velocity rises. In all honesty, you should really record each part again and not rely upon each instrument having the same velocity response curve.

Having done it the way you have, however, you can probably sort the problem out to an extent by editing the velocity levels using either the pencil or line tools in the MIDI editor. If you have an awful lot of notes to edit, then perhaps using the logical editor to tweak the velocity levels would be a more pragmatic approach than editing them by hand.

Hope that helps!
