You can now go from 4 -> 5.

I managed to start Cubase 5 under Win7 64bit beta, but since I couldn't get my audio drivers to install I couldn't test it properly.

Cool nice one Dave, i shall give 4 64 bit a spin and see. If 64 bit vista version runs under 7 i doubt i'll upgrade as i'd rather save the cash to go to nuendo but if not i guess it will have to be done.

Do you know if 5.0.1 has sorted the original 5 bugs ?

5.0.1 certainly *feels* more stable, but I wasn't specifically experiencing any of the known 5.0 bugs myself.

ive still got lots of issues with 5.01 as have lots of others from what ive read on the offical cubase 5 forums..
a few arnt getting the same problems as some or there not as annoyed as others are but there is still issues with windows disapearing, resizing on there own, moving windows, transport bar disappearing or locking up,some samples not importing correctly...etc its got to the point were im no longer using cubase 5 because its crashing too much and giving me major headaches so ive reverted back to cubase 4.5 and thats very very stable it very rarely crashes and ive no graphical issues at all its rock solid for me..

ill wait until they update cubase 5 before i use it properly again..if i was you jaydf id stay with cubase 4 update that then get cubase 5 when it becomes more stable..i know daves had no issues but lots are just check out the offical cubase 5 forums at www.cubase.net

Ahh i havent got the money yet, looking to try and get it by about april time. going for a new machine, new OS and fingers crossed nuendo. move my old machine into a rack case and mount one of my samsung 17s on a metal plate and rackmount it and have a dedicated reaktor machine/big synth jobby. but im kinda just waiting to see the prices of the lynnfield processors and boards and see if theres gonna be a nuendo 5 any time soon.

From what I've read, it looks like the performance king for the next year or so is already here, it's the Core i7 920 "D0" stepping. It's capable of being overclocked to over 4GHz and can outperform the i7 956 Extreme, if only the price of quality X58 mobos would drop a bit.

Well this is certainly the case atm but if you look at the lynnfield boards on the table your going to get all the features at a lower price (no triple channel RAM but if you look at the figures its not much of an advantge) 1156 socket is the replacement for 775 not 1366 (this is more of a 771 socket replacement).

The 2.56 mid range i7 lynnfield will go turbo to 3.0ghz still sports 4 cores and 8 threads it just also contains the PCIE graphics controller so boards only have 1 chip the p55 which should make them cheaper. the lynnfields arent supposed to run as hot from what ive read too. where as there have been 1366 i7s at the 70/80 degree range lynnfields are reported around 50 which i reckon would be better for silencing. other advantage is if you look at the roadmap the 1156s seem to be getting the 32nm shrink first (why i have no idea but there we go)

The 1366 i7s are great chips but i think theyre just way too much and theyre mainly for people that want to overclock in the same way the extremes were. I couldnt imagine trying to air cool a 4ghz i7 and try and keep it quiet at the same time. my e6600 @ 3ghz can be noisey enough and thats running much cooler (hits about 40 peak) and in a 182 with 6 lo noise antec/akasa fans
