i was looking at buying essentials 4 but when you look at what you get for the price your not getting a great deal more than cubase ai4 (which is free)

i think steinberg were stupid to release 5 different versions of cubase 4 when you only need maybe 3. 1 full version..1 cut down version ..1 free bundled version...thats all you need there was no need for cubase4/studio4/essentials 4/cubase ai4/cubase le4..

i think it was just steinberg being greedy i just hope when cubase 5 comes around they will offer good deals for those who want to upgrade..i also think they should make there pricing structures more fairer for upgrading too and also lower there prices if they do this then there will be less cracked copys of cubase 5 when its released ..i know they gave the h20 crackers all jobs at steinberg thats one of the reasons cubase 4 never got fully cracked but with cubase 5 there will be loads of hackers ready too jump on it like they have done with sonar 8 that got cracked within 2 weeks !!

Was this T*****y, by any chance?

I hate dongles. One of the reasons I was happy to move to Logic.
I just don't think it's a practical solution or FAIR to your customers.

Ok... I thought it was the full Cubase 4 version. But yes still a good deal as 70 is less than Cubase Essential which is actually not bad at all.

Does anyone know,

Now that I have Cubase E4 update can I buy another Steinberg dongle and run my old copy of SE3 on another machine?

If so I would but if not I shall wait and by another copy of E4.

If it's an update, I don't think you could.

Effectively you're transferring the license from 3 to 4. Unless you have two unique licenses, I don't think this can work.

It's a deffo no if you have one license and tried to run them software. Syncrosoft would flag up and spit out its dummy !
all i can say is probably before cubase 4 is stable
I am a Reformed crack software ex addict. After years of putting up with losing entire sessions due to crashes i finally bought cubase 4 and it is very steady.Never crashed, never twitched, works superbly with my quadcore. Cubase 5 will be even more solid. It does everything i want and even better. PT is sinking fast!!!

And why is everyone complaining about the usb dongle?...just leave it in the usb slot thats all...mine never leaves the studio. If you are taking it elsewhere then attach it on the house keys/car keys...simple

"If you are taking it elsewhere then attach it on the house keys/car keys...simple" ????

Bloody disasterous I would have thought!

Surely it is not beyond the wit of Steinberg/syncrosft to code TWO dongles, one to use/loose/get nicked and one to keep in a safe place as insurance and use whilst subjecting yourself to the 3rd degree to get another?

Ah! Silly me! THAT would be HELPFUL to the customer!
Dave.
