I will do.
If I create a midi track i can open the inserts section. If i click to add an insert a list is given to me displaying all possible effects i can add to the track. On that list is pro 53. If i click on it another option is presented names, "bin" if i click again, pro 53 is presented. The VST is then displayed and i can click a key to produce a note. I still cannot however select pro 53 from the VST instruments selection or by creating an instrument track. Do you have any advice?
Thank for all of your help so far it is much appreciated

when you where on XP could you create an instrument track with Pro53 with ease, if it is not being seen when creating an instrument track i strongly suggest going into plug in options and looking for it to see if it is being recognized as an instrument as it seems you are seeing the effects in the inserts

Here are two screenshots of cubase. One of the instrument VST selection and one of the vst instrument being opened in the effects tab. Yes, Pro 53 could be loaded and used very easily using xp.
Thanks

yo, yeah ive had this problem, dont really have time to do a full reply right now, but i shall post an answer in full detail 2moro, basically if you remove the vst folder from the device page, close cubase, restart there'll be nothing, then add the folder and any other folders back in and it should then do a long scan finding everything, this can take a while and on 4.5.1 sometimes it does go a little crazy if you have multiple folders, first time i rejigged all mine took about 10 mins for cubase to load and recognise all the plugs, now it runs sweet as a nut

cool beans, always a pain in the rear when vsts dont show up. I found the automaps to be the biggest issue with vsts, still got some that arent playing ball.

With XP or Vista???

I went for XP at the beginning of the year as sooo many people warned me off Vista for a music PC. Hopefully things may have improved by now.

And yes, last year I was running Cubase on my humble laptop with success. And that was with a Yamaha MW12 USB desk and Line6 USB GuitarPort.

Based on my own experience things are much better now. I run Vista x86 and x64 quite happily.
