One of the charts linked on steinberg.net there, the 3rd one down...APPEL....
Apple looks so weird spelt wrong. I don't usually mock typos but this one made me chuckle.
Seriously though, I spent a good while looking around Steinberg's site before I bought Cubase4 and never saw that page. Odd.

Have fun with the laptop though, looks nifty enough.

Thanks for the advice guys.
Laptop is working fine and running cubase well. Will sort everything out this weekend.
Just one more thing,
Does anyone know of any free VSTs which would be suitable for making dance/techno tracks or any good drum VSTs for use with cubase?
I have the pro 53 VST but for some reason cubase wont recognise it and i am not sure why but if anyone knows any free VSTs which would be in anyway similar any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks again,
Steve

Hitsquad.com - Musicians Web Center you'll find some nice free goodies on there. Not just for the styles youve specified but i do like analogue warfare.

Thanks for your help so far.
I will check them out. Have installed a few of the free VSTs already but cant seem to find them in Cubase under VST Instruments. I have installed them and made sure that they are in the Cubase VST instrument folder but still nothing will appear except HAlion 1. Could this possibly be caused by compatibility problems with windows vista? Or would there be another reason for this.
Thanks in advance,
Steve

Yeah you should be able to see, prologue, mystic, halion 1, monologue, spector at least and if youve got the cd and installed everything you should get things like the a1, lm7 and some of the old vst 5 and sx2/3 plugs

yeah i remember there is a correct and specific way to install Halion1, so it all shows and the content of it. do you see the effects? i think there is a re scan method too to give the VST directory a once over and to include any you may not have told cubase to look for some where in devices i believe?

oh ok by the looks of it you only get Halion

Cubase 4 audio engine
48 audio tracks and up to 64 MIDI tracks
HALion One software sample player with selected Motif sounds
Plug&Play VST/MIDI setup with Yamaha products such as Motif XS Music Production Synthesizer, n-series Digital Mixing Studio and KX series USB keyboards
Complete integration of Steinberg hardware products (MR816 CSX and MR816 X Advanced Integration DSP Studio and CC121 Advanced Integration Controller)
Studio Connections “Recall” as well as special product-specific functions for perfect software-hardware integration
25 VST effects, including 15 VST3 plug-ins
20 MIDI styles and 480 drum loops included

try going into devices or preferences and looking for your vst folders? may be it doesn't accept 3rd party plug ins?

I have checked but still nothing. On my old computer which unfortunately broke i ran the same version of cubase ai4 and imported many 3rdparty VSTs. I also used pro 53 which will now not work. My previous computer however was running windows XP. Could Vista possibly be the cause of this problem?
Thanks very much,
Steve
