Default PCI Firewire Card For Liquid Mix

Hey guys

I am on the verge of buying a liquid mix, but first I need to buy a PCI firewire card. I have read on the focusrite site that they recommend either T.I, VIA or NEC chipsets. I have tried scouting around this forum and tried searching some PC components stores for a suitable chip, but to be honest I really don't know what to get.

Has anyone bought a PCI firewire card specifically for use with the liquid mix, if so what did you buy and how has it worked out? I was thinking of going with the Texas Instruments one, but cannot find one (maybe my search methods are something to be worked on).... can anyone recommend any manufacturers/models?

Much appreciated dudes (and dudettes?)

Thanks Jaydmf

I also found this on scan

It supposedly has a TI chipset. Any thoughts on this and Lycom as a manufacturer?

Hi OJB,

Jays provided a Via link already so here is a link for a PCI card with a TI chipset .

On a side note...I could not find anything similar on DV's shop. Maybe they are out of stock.

They are not so easy to come by these days, but I bought an Adaptec AFW-4300 specifically to use with the LiquidMix... I never had any issues using it.

Nice one dave, can you remember where you purchased it (PM if need be, we obviously don't want to be actively advertising other sites) and what chipset does that have?

I'm afraid I haven't got the faintest clue where I got it... it was several years ago now. It has the TI chipset, so you should be safe using any TI based card. It has also seemed to work quite happily with the Agere chipset of the onboard firewire ports on the Asus motherboards I always use.

Heh....we cross posted. My earlier post was a minute after you posted the link to a TI chipset card...but anyway...

FWIW I have been a using a VIA based PCI card and it has been flawless. Been using it for at least 2 years. I picked it up from PC World.

Good news Monarch. if there was a prize for finding me the product I end up buying then you would win it! But as there isn't, sucks to be you..

I bought the Belkin one from INTA. Just waiting for the delivery...

Thanks to all for the suggestions though, was harder to find them than I had first expected.

Nice one OJB.

Always good to hear a story with a nice ending. As for the prize...heh, even if you did give it I would have to share it anyway...picked up loads of tips from many others here since joining this forum.
