Question Midi keyboard controller

Hi,
i'm looking for good small keyboard controller. I have looked for Novation sl compact and Edirol pcr-300. I would be using those to input notes to sequencer and sibelius(at home)+ at live gigs to control logic studio. Any opinions on those 2 or other suggestions.

Thanks trbguy

Is that automap feature something to really look after?

Edirol has 9 sliders more pads and is cheaper, but I read somewhere about quality issues. How is Novations quality and product support?

Akai would be good choice but I prefer something small enough to go with laptop.

Thanks for the fast reply

Auto map is great especially if your doing live gigs for quick adjustment of parameters, i haven't got the sl but my mate has and quality wise physically its cool, but not up to careless gigging you would have to look after it to some degree, no throwing it into the back of the van with the rest of the gear etc no experience with warranty issues though. some more members will no doubtedly give more opinions and options so hold tight

Personally, I dont get automap - dont get me wrong - I understand it, know what it does etc, but it has just never struck me as particularly elegent, and TBH I find it a bit instrusive.

Novation Keyboards probably have amoung the best feel of any of these cheaper controllers (though I havnt used the AKAI one listed above).

My favourite Novation controller is probably the old Remote series rather than the newer Remote SL - build quiality was much better IMHO, though the key feel is the same between both models.

BTW - once you have got used to using an X/Y pad for some pairs of paramaters - anything else is a ratehr poor substitute - V-Synth makes a great controller too

Certainly have a look at what works best with your intended software.

Companies are attaching their keyboards to someone elses DAW & products.

I really prefer the playability of the keyboard over the functionality and some do either or.

It depends on your use and pocket.

The edirol stuff has had known 'dead keys' in the past. That's a fat lot of use.

I'm just getting my live rig together to get computer based backing tracks working.
I have Yamaha Mo6 and Alesis 6hd so looking for pref 25 key controller either to control logic which I allready have or change to Ableton live.
Allmost every piece of equipment seems to go well together with Live but I had some problems trying to use Mo6's daw with Logic.
I would like to launch loops and jump to different sections of song while playing and to lessen number of sound changes maybe put some lead sound to controller. Any thoughts on what brands go together?

I also recently acquired a Behringer UMA25S and have found it to be rather good...

Nice touch Failed Muso with the added links to the User Reviews. I beleive you might actually be the very first person do that. It makes it even easier for forum members to see in a bit more detail why a recommendation might be worth looking into, with a link to an existing User Review. Nice write ups as well, thanks!

I love the Emu X-Board series. Great value for money, even without the added software bundles, and they have great a great feel to them.

I like the Novation stuff as well, but the feel is a touch 'light' for me.

I bought the little X-Board 25, and it sits atop my laptop perfectly. The rotary controllers are very responsive, and it's really easy to set up.
