My UAD2 turned up earlier
The problem, is that it appears I have nowhere to put it. I did take a pic and was gonna bluetooth it over on here for you to look and advice me...but now my mac seems to think it doesn't have bluetooth ! what does a pcie slot typically look like. My pc is old. I've never put a pcie card in before, so I dunno what I'm trying to find. The UAd card isn't comptiable with my pci slots either. From reading around, it seems some slots will accept the newer express cards. I'm gutted. I was really looking forward to getting it going ! |

Another thing to remember is that the PCIe slot(s) will generally be the slot(s) closer to the main CPU than the PCI slots. However long the PCIe slot is it will have a short "bit" first whereas the PCI slots have a long "bit" first; --- ------------ PCie ------------- --- PCI ------------- --- PCI |

I'm sorry to hear that Ed.
PCIe is a relatively new advance in computer connectivity; but motherboards from up to 2 (maybe 3) years old began featuring PCIe slots. There are 2 types: PCIe for graphics cards (x16) have lanes that are a little longer than standard PCI; whereas the lanes that you would put your DSP card in (x1) are about 1" long approx. Depending on your processor, it might be a good idea to upgrade your mobo. What is your processor? ______________________________

Thanks for getting back everyone !
I've resolved the bluetooth problem. Post about that separately.. Here's the pic ! Is that brown slot pcie? Its underneath my 2 Maudio24/96 cards in pci slots, so it'd make sense. The next problem then is that the uad won't fit with the plate screwing it to the chassis. You can unscrew the card from the plate... but is it safe to install a card unsecured ? |

Ed, res on that pic is way too high!
![]() That's the one! It should align perfectly with the backplate slot. Just drop the card in first of all before you try anything like taking the backplate off the card. Make sure, of course, that you've removed the original plate. Trust me; it should line up (even if it doesn't you shouldn't have any issues dropping it in for a test-fit). ______________________________

sorry for the grainy pics. It's all my phone can manage !
Matt, I'm not sure. Have a look at this. Regardless of the bar it's fitted to, the card doesn't seem to fit the slot anyway. If you look at the right hand side, you'll see the pins aren't gonna go in ! This pic shouldn't be so big ! |

That looks more like an AMR or CNR slot to me.

The fitting is universal. There should be an extra drop of blank board hanging off the card alongside the rows of pins/teeth that slot into the lane; that blank bit (which looks like a beige square but has no pins) doesn't drop into anything. I wish I had my computer so I could demo a pic for you, but I'm at work; so I hope you can make sense of what I'm saying. Is that what's concerning you? ______________________________

Raises the question: how old is your PC/motherboard, Ed? ______________________________
