Default Alternative to Guildford of Maine fabric?

As my previous thread about acoustic treatment is now closed, just to let those members know who kindly helped out, I'm planning now to build my own acoustic panels using pro guidelines from links posted and other web sources.

My question is about guildford of maine fabric (type FR701) used to cover them. They are an American based company and quite expensive. Any member know if there's a good quality, more reasonably priced UK alternative that will do the job effectively - or is it a trip to a local fabric shop

Sure, there are plenty of alternatives. Simple burlap will the do the job admirably, but you could also use any fabric than passes the "breathe test": simply hold the fabric up in front of your face and blow through it. If you can, it's acoustically transparent. If you can't, it's not.

You can cover panels in all kinds of crazy stuff. We've covered custom panels in Fender grill cloth before.
