Question The art of recording with out recording

my question is that if i have a drum track looping away in live and i want to play a bass line in and have it record how do i do it so i just record the bass line and have it placed into the session view? iv been just recording and dragging the clip into session from arrange but i notice it also records everything else that is playing???
