Default I'm sinning (again)

For my troubles of playing student gigs, I'm having to find ways of keeping myself amused whilst keeping the crowds entertained. Obviously, I want to play stuff that I like, but obviously won't be in work long if I bore the kids to death. As a result, I'm ending up taking instrumentals of tracks I like and vocals I don't (and vice versa) to make hybrids that I can live with.

First up. Chris Lake (Changes) & Spritney Beers (If You Seek Amy)

I've still got some chopping to do on this one. 8 minutes is far too long for a student night. Even though it works really well. The kids haven't ever heard anything longer then a radio edit Looking at it, I can get this one down to about 4.30 with usable intro/outro...

I need to do llllllloooottts of these. The SU are promoting it as the mother of all mashup parties (not really because of my efforts tho). It's the end of year blowout. Pretty much NO drink will cost more then £1.

Anyhow. Feedback welcome.

I got it down to 5.30. Not bothering to chop much else. All I have to do is adjust the cue point on the CDJ or the clip start in live depending on what I'm playing off..

I dunno if it is Chris for real, but I've just had an email from someone pertaining to be him saying they think it's quite good & funny !

I just wish I was as good at making my own stuff. This is 'fun'. I like the names of the resulting tracks.

Next one: Prydz Vs Kerri Hilson - Return The Panjoo lol

I think mash ups is a talent in its own right. Maybe it's because I still don't know much about dance music, but I am in awe how you can get that stuff to work together!

The skill factor is pretty much negated by 2 things imo:

1) It's the same critical listening and techniques you'd normally apply to normal production & editing work.

2) The tools that are now around make mashups sssssooo simple. Unless you push the boat and go for mini mega mixes (ala Modz style for Chris Moyles). I could do somet like that, but then that takes too much away from my live Dj-ing.
