I would say yes, a bit. These days modern plastics make things possible at prices we could only wish for years ago. Ok such things will not stand road use perhaps (my son has a Korg AX3G multifx box, very "Toys R Us" but it has some quite incredible sounds in it for a nifty!).

I could wish my Fast track pro were 20% bigger and had better knobs but that would probably double its price.

BTW ref the E-mu 0404. Started back to work today to find the chief designer has not one but two of the damn things hooked up in the lab!(needed an optical D/A, A/D 24bit 96kHz, not sure why). One is his own and he says it just gets on with the job very clean and quietly. They are also rather larger than I thought and a nice chunky unit altogether.
