Thanks everyone for all the suggestions. Like everyone else here I would love the Orpheus, but my budget wouldn't stretch to that. Nor the Apogee Rosetta or Lynx Aurora - at least not without some real financial pain!

I'm interested in dickiefunk's suggestion of the Audiofire 12. What would you think of a combination of Audiofire 12 (£450) plus (say) DAV BG1 twin preamp (£500) - total £950.

How would that match up against the RME Fireface 800 - two mic preamps included, at about the same price (£850)?

These would be used with a pair of KM184s which I already have, or some Sennheiser MKH80xx when I can afford them. Recording exclusively classical piano (my lovely little Bosendorfer 170) and chamber music.
