I have not tried the 4.5 update either but my experience with Cubase was even before Cubase
4.1 I think it was very soon after
4.01 was released and I had no issues with Media bay.
Having said that this happens all the time where system configs, some unknown hardware or software issue / bug on one system will not appear on another.
I remember seeing all sorts of different experiences (good and bad) with 4.00...4.1 e.t.c on Steinbergs forums. It has always been that way with pretty much every software package out there. Hopefully 4.5 addresses the problems you and many others have had.
